To some, traffic, “uniques” or clicks are dumb ways of measuring how good a site is. Amusingly however, those numbers however make Jalopnik ’s reader forum bigger than some established automotive websites. Here are the most read stories from Oppositelock this past year.

Cafe racers are all the rage in the bike world. Classic looks with affordable prices make this style of motorcycle attractive to many riders, including those just starting out on two wheels. Peter Black tells us why that might not be such a good idea.

Selling a used car can be a big inconvenience. Worst are potential buyers who expect more than is implied in the ad. Steven Lang explains why the ‘as is’ disclaimer is the most effective way to avoid hassles.

Having someone else work on your car can be expensive and is often associated with the impression that the mechanic will charge you exorbitantly to fix simple problems and cause a few more while they’re at it. AMGtech gives us perspective from the other side of the transaction.

Many, if not most new cars run synthetic oil now and while it was previously not recommended to change from conventional oils in older cars, that may not be correct anymore. Bozi Tatarevic explains the differences from conventional oil, the potential benefits and if it would be worthwhile to make the switch.

Express warranties cover the claims a seller makes when it comes to attributes or qualities of a vehicle fall under the terms of a purchase agreement. Dealers often try to disclaim the express warranty in an attempt to muddy the waters in a sellers mind when something turns out not to be as stated. SteveLehto cuts through the bullshit to clarify what a dealer can and cannot disclaim.

In 2007, the Ford Mustang sported the old modular 4.6l v8 and traditional solid axle at the back. This year finally ushered in the 21st century for the original pony car as the car adopted an independent rear suspension for the 2015 model year. Dealerships are often referred to as stealerships and this case is one reason why this is often justified. As happens all too often, a dealer employee took a customer’s car for a ‘test drive’ overnight and got into an altercation with a deer. The dealer then tried to put that incident on the customer’s insurance.

You've been here for a while. Who started Oppo, when and why?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:06 |

Nerts, my Land Cruiser post missed the top 10 spot by 100 views. Oh well. Great list, thanks DasWauto!

WHERE IS THE BLACKBIRD?!?!? WHERE ARE TALES FROM THE BACK SEAT?!?!?!? THIS POST SITS ON A THRONE OF LIES!!!!
(Thanks, as always, DW, for doin’ good work.)

Oppo was started (a) in 1910, (b) by Oscar Wilde, and (c) for teh lulz. Okay, but more seriously, it wasn’t started by A Person, as such, at least not that I can recall/is recorded by history. The front page, when it first got commenting (years and years ago), ended up having a dumping ground/negative zone for off-topic comments to be junked/sent off to, and it was then realized (I think via people using that to continue discussions after comments were nuked) that an off-topic forum wasn’t a bad idea, so that original title (which I’m forgetting the name of) ended up becoming Oppositelock.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:16 |

But I still made it in the Top 10 Shitposts, right?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:17 |

I would not be surprised at all if the Blackbird post got more than 100k views this year, which would’ve put it on the list. The info I was working from only included posts from this year though so I left it out.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:18 |
|
The original title was simply off-topic. Spot on for the rest.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:19 |
|
I think you’ve got at least 6 of those 10 posts. Spiegel got the rest. You’ll have to ask PG to confirm those numbers.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:21 |
|
Yea, my running supposition was that it was “posts which were new in 2015”.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:24 |

I’m just bummed out that nobody wanted to read about the TPP. /shrug
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:25 |
|
That was a great post. Definitely one that still stands out to me months later. Nice job.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:26 |

Thanks, the irony was that it was just a lunchtime rant sparked by a question in oppo.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:30 |

It pisses me off that some 4chan troll got the top story. The actual guy with the actual tattoo knows it’s an alternator and wanted it that way.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:32 |

The Blackbird post has become so strong that it is beyond quantification by any known means. Like the size of the universe, or the true nature of God, it cannot be fully understood by man.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:33 |
|
it wasn’t started by A Person
:(
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:35 |

Dude, it wasn’t A Person, it was A
Parsons.
This is his project. It’s something or a work in progress as you can see as it keeps crashing.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 15:35 |

Actually, Patrick, you’d be surprised at the exciting mathematics which goes on in discussions of the infinite.
The Blackbird post has had exactly -1/12 views.

Okay, but Siriusly.

More of a superhero really. Lowercase Man.

Heeey! I are Oppomous!
![]() 12/30/2015 at 16:03 |

Is that true? If so, why would anyone want a tattoo of an alternator?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 16:03 |

Started from the bottom, now we’re here.
But seriously, 612k page views. I remember after the mass exodus following 6.o there were like 20 people who would regularly post here.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 16:07 |

As a fellow FZJ80 owner, can you share the link?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 16:08 |

I only made the list once. I’m slacking . . .

http://oppositelock.kinja.com/why-the-toyota…
EDIT: looks like I got those extra 100 views...too bad the current 10 spot got another 300. Oh well, I’m still happy.

sweet; thank you Capt. Overland

or would attempt to post here anyway.

I certainly learned a lot from the post, and my appreciation for the Series 200 grew even more.

![]() 12/30/2015 at 18:01 |

Yeah, it actually amassed a couple hundred thousand this year. But it wasn’t a 2015 post. It just never dies.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 18:03 |

There are a few of us who have survived MANY changes.
Also, all these years later, I still can’t read your name without the wrong interpretation (which I am omitting so that no one falls into your trap).
![]() 12/30/2015 at 18:05 |
|
Made it! Top 10! Suck it hammerhead!(just kidding)
![]() 12/30/2015 at 18:13 |
|
...and Jalopnik is even happier, since you’re giving them ***FREE*** (and excellent) content. :-)
![]() 12/30/2015 at 18:32 |

The Blo N’ Dude one? Yeah, that might have been a mistake mentioning that...
And I just remembered how that (joking) post kicked off a huge theme of posting confessions that day. That was a weird day.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 18:34 |

It was the stupidest thing I ever posted
![]() 12/30/2015 at 19:55 |

Did you mean Best OppositeLock Post s of 2015?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 19:58 |

No ground speed check?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 20:09 |

That's the one. LOL
![]() 12/30/2015 at 20:10 |

How about a list of most liked instead of most viewed?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 20:22 |
|
Nope, foreshadowing.
/fixed, thanks
![]() 12/30/2015 at 20:23 |
|
It would’ve made the list on views but I’ve only really included posts made this year.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 20:25 |
|
That data isn’t readily available to me, unfortunately. That would have to come from Patrick George, as the list for this post did actually.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 21:05 |

I was hoping my “Jimmie Johnson Baja Crash” would make the #10 spot (in part because I researched the hell out of that thing). Not even close
![]() 12/30/2015 at 21:31 |

It’s funny what hits and what misses. I figured the land cruiser one would be a 20 comment story...and I’ve poured into others that got no traction

Hey Das
![]() 12/30/2015 at 22:10 |

Can I borrow this for my own YIR?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 22:26 |

The square? Sure, here’s a higher res copy for you (Patrick George made it):
Here’s mine (I added some transparency which only looks lighter here but will be slightly transparent when overlaid, it’s not perfect but looks OK scaled down as I did in the top image):
![]() 12/30/2015 at 22:31 |
|
Sup. How goes it?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 22:34 |
|
You know, much as it is fun and rightful to do my own recap, it’s also good to see another bloke take a look at my posts and do their own look at my time here.
That, or I just need to find my first post in 2015. How do I do that?
![]() 12/30/2015 at 22:46 |
|
Simply browsing back through your own posts is the only way to really do that. Patrick George got the data to make this list for me so I can’t offer any better solution, unfortunately.
![]() 12/30/2015 at 23:27 |

Damn it, no Blackbird
![]() 12/31/2015 at 00:37 |

Wait, when was 6.0?
![]() 12/31/2015 at 01:45 |

Awesome! Just wanted to thank Oppo for offering such a plateform and opportunity to find a readership for whatever I do. I will have lots of stuff for 2016, more reviews and articles that I’ll keep shamelessly spamming to everyone at Jalopnik to get re-posted and of course off topic stuff that I will have in mind at a certain moment and a certain time + all the posting and answering to other posts :)
Thank you again and well, see you in 2016 (which is 4h and 15 minutes from now for me on the other of the planet :) )
![]() 12/31/2015 at 09:53 |

Right on man, I’m glad you still like it. I saw someone wearing one of my e30 m3 designs at autocross over the summer, unfortunately I didn’t get around to talking to them. Have you seen the new Point Break yet? I went on Tuesday, enjoyed it.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:21 |

I was wondering why I got a spurt of Facebook followers yesterday afternoon and this explains it. Thanks for the mention.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 17:37 |

I was hoping my roundabout escapades might have made the cut but as you’ve said it was views, not likes that determined the winners.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 19:36 |

Damn. I always thought the Tercel was going to be a smashing success!

Nice that the shirts get around. That movie makes me so mad but I’ll see it eventually haha. Tina Fey looks good in her new movie
![]() 01/01/2016 at 13:35 |

Yeah, if this was a list of my favourite posts, rather than most views your post would definitely have made the list.
![]() 01/01/2016 at 13:36 |

Sisters? That looks hysterical, I have to go see that.
![]() 01/01/2016 at 14:36 |

Yeah. It was alright. Was hoping for a bit more. When Tina and Amy are on screen just them throwing jokes around it's excellent.
